Milk St Studios – Community Code of Conduct
Our Purpose
Milk St Studios exists to support, empower, and remove barriers for musicians of all levels. This only works if we create a space where people feel safe, respected, and inspired to participate.
1. Respect Everyone
Treat all members, guests, and staff with respect—on-site and online
No harassment, discrimination, or hate speech of any kind
Be mindful of different backgrounds, identities, and experience levels
Bottom line: If it makes someone feel unwelcome, it doesn’t belong here.
2. Keep It Collaborative, Not Competitive
Encourage others—don’t tear people down
Offer feedback only when it’s invited or clearly constructive
Make space for different skill levels and styles
Goal: Build people up, not prove you're better than them.
3. Be Mindful of Shared Spaces
Leave rooms, gear, and common areas clean and ready for the next person
Start and end sessions on time
Report broken equipment or issues promptly
Rule of thumb: Treat the space like it’s your own.
4. No Disruptive or Harmful Behavior
No aggressive confrontations (in person or online)
Avoid excessive negativity or behavior that derails sessions/events
Respect the tone of the room (especially during jams, sessions, and workshops)
5. Sensitive Topics & Personal Sharing
Music can be emotional—but be mindful of the group setting
Avoid graphic, violent, or deeply distressing content in shared spaces
If something feels too heavy for a group, take it to a private conversation
We support people—but we are not a therapy space.
6. Inclusive & Safe Environment
This is a welcoming space for all identities and backgrounds
Any behavior targeting someone’s identity will not be tolerated
If someone expresses discomfort, take it seriously and adjust
7. Online Community Standards
(For Facebook group, chats, etc.)
No harassment, call-outs, or public arguments
Assume good intent, but address issues respectfully
Staff may remove posts or comments that disrupt the community
8. Substance Use
Follow all local laws and studio policies
No behavior that puts others at risk or makes the space uncomfortable
9. Follow Staff Direction
Staff are here to protect the space and community
If a staff member steps in, respect their guidance
10. Accountability
First step: conversation and warning
Repeated or serious issues may result in:
Temporary suspension
Loss of membership
Removal from events or the space
Simple Guiding Principle
Be the kind of person others want to create music with.
